My Best Friend Is A Trump Supporter
But I’m not letting it ruin our friendship.
Today, Joe Biden was elected the 46th President of the United States of America. And now more than ever, the country needs a strong feeling of hope.
Regardless of how much we disagree with the other political side, we cannot fall victim to divisive tactics. Because when we continually look back at the past, we cannot look forward to prosperity and opportunity in the future.
I’ve always leaned left throughout my entire life. While growing up, I was taught the importance of treating everyone with genuine respect and kindness. Those qualities are instilled within me.
My best friend voted for Donald Trump. I disagree with the divisive rhetoric and pretty much everything he says. Yet, I shall not let it ruin our friendship. Instead, we both have empathy for each other’s point of view. Because despite our differences, we are both human, and not enemies.
America cannot come together as a nation if its people refuse to listen to the other side of the political aisle. Nor can America heal its wounds when its people tell the other side to cry in a corner because they lost a democratic election. That type of behavior is what makes the problem worse.
The election of Joe Biden is a beautiful opportunity for everyone around the world to come together. It doesn’t matter if you’re from North America, Africa, Asia, or any other part of the planet. Every single one of us has a common interest in creating a better future.
We need to listen to each other. We need to communicate, practice empathy, and come together as a society. We should have healthy debates and show genuine compassion and respect for everyone around us.
We are a planet of 7.8 billion people. Yes, we all have differences. But we can’t let them divide us. Instead, we must focus on our similarities. If we are to come together as a global community, we must focus on what we have in common.
That’s the only thing that matters.
