Thanks for the comment, Matt. I’m really glad this one struck a cord with you. It is super difficult to do in this day and age and it’s just easier to not engage in a time with division. I have always mostly agreed with leftist ideas, but usually never the shouting and visceral methods of persuasion. I also forgot what an election year is like. It hasn’t been this way since 2016, which might contribute a bit to it.
From an external perspective, the shouting and screaming in people's faces (eg. the recent example in DC of BLM harassing people at a restuarant) needs to stop. Same with the violent riots in the streets and suburbs of american cities. It's not a productive way to make progress.
All of that is playing directly into the hands of DJT and the GOP. And the democratic party clearly knows it. After all, it's putting off a lot of centrist people that don't want to see their neighbourhood burned down.
But like you said, it's an election year. People often sow division to win votes. That practise happens all over the world. But sometime, the line will be crossed, and the damage will be irreversable.
I just hope that for the sake of america as a country, and the safety of its citizens, the chaos stops soon.
