7 Ways To Make Your Flight More Enjoyable
Do you ever wish that flying was more enjoyable?
If you’ve ever flown in the discomfort of economy class, it’s certainly a thought that’s entered your mind. After all, dirty restrooms, cramped legroom, and inedible food are just some of the things you can expect when flying across the country.
Right? If you’re paying hundreds of dollars for a flight to another destination, you want to feel like the airline is treating you with the respect that you deserve. But unfortunately, that vision of flying is rarely the case.
Over the past few years, I’ve found myself in the same position as you many times. But now that I’ve taken flights to multiple continents around the world, I’ve discovered some tips to make your trip a lot more enjoyable.
So below are several ways to make economy feel like you’re traveling in first-class. Each one of these insights helped me look forward to long-haul flights, and love every single moment of going on a plane. I’m sure they will do the same for you, too.
Think Carefully About Your Seat Selection.
If you have the opportunity to book your seats in advance, choosing a location that suits your needs is a great way to ensure you’re not frustrated on the flight. After all, there’s nothing worse than discovering you’ve got to sit in the middle seat for six hours.
As I regularly fly between Europe & North America, I’ve discovered that sitting by the window is optimal for getting a reasonable amount of sleep. But if you need to stretch your legs or regularly use the restroom, selecting an aisle seat will make your flight less stressful as you don’t have to worry about climbing over a sleeping neighbor.
Although there’s often a small fee to book your seats in advance, you’ll notice that being in your desired location will make flying a lot more comfortable.
Purchase An Airport Lounge Pass.
I’ve discovered that getting an airport lounge pass is a great way to improve the quality of your time in the airport. For example, you can often get unlimited champagne & restaurant-quality meals at many airport lounges throughout North America.
A lot of credit card companies offer airport lounge access for people on specific reward programs. Alternatively, there are many lounges (such as Plaza Premium) that allow you entry for a small fee.
So if you want to relax at the airport with some privacy or eat loads of food, getting access to an airport lounge will certainly help you to feel comfortable while traveling.
Order A Special Meal.
A lot of us have specific dietary requirements that we need to uphold. For example, I get incredibly sick whenever I consume dairy products because I’m lactose intolerant.
But even if you don’t have any medical (or religious) reasons for ordering a special meal, it’s a great way to ensure that you get served before everyone else on the flight.
So if you want to maintain a healthy diet on a plane, or simply hope to avoid the food in economy, pre-ordering a special meal is a great way to feel relaxed throughout your flight.
Bring Some Noise Cancelling Headphones.
If you don’t want to get distracted by a screaming baby for the duration of your flight, bringing a decent pair of headphones will help you to block out the sound.
I’ve found that using my AirPods Pro on a plane works well as they’re portable & have an incredibly useful noise-canceling feature. But if you aren’t willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of headphones, you should be able to pick some up at any electronics store (such as Best Buy).
Since I started using my headphones on a plane, I feel a lot more rested as it’s difficult to hear any loud noises that could prevent me from sleeping.
So whenever you fly, make sure to bring a pair of headphones, and you’ll quickly discover that every aspect of your journey is a lot more enjoyable.
Bring Your Own Entertainment.
Anyone who’s spent more than four hours in economy will know that the in-flight entertainment can sometimes be pretty terrible. After all, there’s nothing worse than having to watch several mediocre movies to pass the time on a long journey.
So whenever I go on a plane, I’ll download Netflix shows to my iPad, and create a Spotify playlist of my favorite music to ensure that I feel entertained while traveling.
Although it may take a few minutes to prepare your choice of entertainment, I’ve discovered that it will make any long-haul flight a lot more enjoyable.
Wear Comfortable Clothes.
If you’re sat in a small seat for several hours, it’s probable that you’ll hate every moment of the flight if you’re wearing anything that’s uncomfortable.
For example, wearing fabrics that lack breathability is a great way to become extremely sweaty on a plane.
I’ll always make sure that I wear shoes that are easy to remove so that going through airport security takes less time. But if you want to enjoy your journey, choosing a pair of comfortable pants is a great place to start.
Bring A Portable Charger.
So if you want to feel less stressed upon landing at your destination, you can easily purchase a great portable charger for less than $20 from a lot of electronics stores.
Because of these strategies, I can travel the entire world in comfort, without having to pay thousands of dollars for an expensive upgrade to first class.
So if you want to enjoy traveling on a plane, all you need to do is find ways to make your experience more comfortable.
